Information About Veneers
What Are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers or porcelain veneers are thin sheets of tooth-colored porcelain that are custom made to fit each patient’s needs specifically. Veneers cover the front surface of a tooth or teeth and improve the overall appearance of one’s smile.
You may consider Veneers if you have:
- Tooth discoloration from root canal treatment, dental fillings, prescription medication, or excessive Fluoride treatment
- Chipped, broken, or worn down teeth
- Crooked or misaligned teeth
- Uneven or irregularly shaped teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Dark lines or mismatched colors
Veneers will give you the natural tooth appearance you desire with added durability and stain resistance. Veneers may even protect your teeth and prevent other dental treatments in the future.
The most appealing advantage of dental veneers is that they give you a fast and painless solution to achieving a flawless smile.
How Do I Get Dental Veneers?
The veneer process is usually separated into two visits and generally calls for local anesthesia.
Visit #1
In preparation for your dental veneers, your dentist will remove a thin layer of enamel from the surface of your tooth or teeth. Next, an impression is taken and sent to a laboratory where your custom veneer is designed. While the laboratory constructs your veneers (usually about 2 weeks), temporary veneers are placed over your tooth or teeth.
Visit #2
During your second visit, your permanent veneers will be temporarily bonded to your teeth so that your dentist can make any necessary adjustments. Once the fit is perfect, your teeth will be cleaned and polished in preparation for the permanent bonding process. Once the permanent bonding process is complete your veneers will be thoroughly examined and any last-minute adjustments will be made.
